Cheraw, SC – [12/9/2024] – Members of the Cheraw FFA chapter proudly represented their community and school at the 2024 National Young Farmer Educational Association (NYFEA) Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This annual event, held from December 4 to December 7, brought together agricultural leaders, educators, college and high school students from across the country.

During the event, members explored how agriculture impacts lives in a region characterized by a blend of desert and mountain landscapes. Through farm and agribusiness tours, they gained insight into local agricultural practices while experiencing the vibrant culture of New Mexico.

The highlight of the institute for Cheraw FFA was their participation in the Ag Expressions and Ag Communications competitions. Notably, Makenzie Dixon achieved national recognition by placing 1st in the National Ag Communications Competition. These contests provided students with opportunities to showcase their talents, knowledge, and creativity in critical areas of agricultural literacy and advocacy.

Ag Expressions Competition
In the Ag Expressions competition, participants submitted essays addressing current agricultural topics. These essays provided a positive perspective on agriculture, tailored to resonate with both consumers and producers.

Ag Communications Competition
In the Ag Communications competition, Cheraw FFA members demonstrated their proficiency in journalism, media strategies, and public speaking. This multifaceted event included mock interviews, the creation of social media posts for each tour stop, and the development of a press release detailing their experience at the 2024 NYFEA Institute.

Yesterday, the spirit of giving shone brightly in Chesterfield County School District. The Teacher Forum, represented by both current and past "Teacher of the Year" honorees—joined forces with the District Office Leadership Team to make a meaningful impact through the December Angel Tree Project. This project culminated in an extraordinary outpouring of kindness as gifts poured in for children and teens in need. The sheer volume of donations was overwhelming, a testament to the incredible compassion and generosity of our schools and district family. Each gift represented a heartfelt gesture of care, bringing joy and hope to the lives of local families during this special season.



This project also highlights the powerful connection between our educators and the community, as well as the shared commitment to ensuring that every child feels valued and loved. It’s a beautiful reminder of how, together, we can make a difference. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the Angel Tree Project a success—it is truly appreciated!

Education Support Professionals (ESPs) are crucial members of the education system, working across both K-12 and higher education. They play an important role in ensuring students have access to a high-quality education by keeping schools running efficiently and supporting the safety, health, and readiness of students to learn.

ESPs take on a wide range of responsibilities, including:

Clerical tasks
Custodial and maintenance duties
Food services
Health and student services
Paraeducator support
Assisting classroom teachers with instructional activities
In addition to their work within schools, many ESPs engage with their local communities and volunteer. They also assist students with classroom materials, field trips, and class projects.



Thank you, ESPs, for ensuring our schools operate smoothly and for supporting the safety, health, and preparedness of students to learn.

On October 18, US Marshal Service representatives and K-9 Mam visited New Heights for grade-level demonstrations. Students, faculty and staff learned a lot about the US Marshal Service and how the K-9s are trained to support their Officer Partner. Thank you for the wonderful opportunity!

Members of the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office visited New Heights Middle to talk with students about the K-9 teams, law enforcements careers and services provided throughout Chesterfield County through the Sheriff's Office.

Our Superindendent, Dr. Anderson, is visiting each high school in the district to speak with students. He started his visits at Cheraw High on Friday, November 1, where he met with Student Government members and Teacher Cadets. The students were eager to ask him questions and discuss school-related topics.

The remaining high school visits will continue in January. He will meet with students at Central High on January 17th, and his final stop will be Chesterfield High on January 24.
