Alumni Spotlight: Ally Suyat

We’re proud to celebrate Ally Suyat, a Central High School graduate, who is named in the newly released independent film The Grand Strand!

Ally’s arts journey began early—starting Band in 5th grade and continuing throughout school. She became interested in film in middle school and, in high school, was involved in the musical theatre program, working backstage as a stage manager. Ally credits the arts with teaching her discipline and time management, skills that continue to serve her well as she works long hours on film sets while balancing many commitments.

Now working in sound design, Ally shared that one of her favorite parts of working on a movie set is the opportunity to travel to new places and gain unique experiences—no two days are ever the same. She also describes the thrill of seeing her name in the credits and feeling proud of the work she’s done as incredibly fulfilling.

The Grand Strand was filmed in Myrtle Beach and tells the story of a young boy facing a life-changing decision between staying with his dysfunctional extended family or entering the foster care system. The film is showing January 15–29 at The Nickelodeon in Columbia, SC.

Ally’s advice to current arts students interested in film or other arts fields:

“It’s all about connections and who you know—and experience. Get out there, get on a film set or in an art community, and get the experience.”

She also emphasized the importance of arts programs as an outlet for expression and a way to share human experiences that connect people from all walks of life.

Congratulations, Ally—we can’t wait to see where your journey takes you next!
