Juvenile Curfew (Passed on December 3, 2025)

 

The County and our neighboring towns are jointly considering a new Juvenile Curfew Ordinance to enhance the safety and well-being of our community's youth.

 

 

 

 

Key Details:

WHO: Applies to all minors under 18 years of age (Juveniles).

WHEN: Curfew hours are 11:00 P.M. until 6:00 A.M., seven days a week.

WHERE: County-wide (including Cheraw, Chesterfield, Pageland, McBee, Jefferson, Ruby, Patrick, and Mount Croghan).

 

 Exceptions to the Curfew

The ordinance is designed with common-sense exceptions, including:

  • With a Parent: Accompanied by a parent, guardian, or an authorized adult (18+).
  • Working: Traveling directly to or from a legally established job.
  • Activity-Related: Traveling directly to or from a supervised school, church, or county activity (no detours).
  • Emergency: Responding to a fire, accident, or other immediate life-threatening emergency.
  • Married/Emancipated: Legally married or emancipated.

 

Penalties for Violations

Violations of the ordinance are classified as misdemeanors:

Juvenile Cases: Handled through Family Court or the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ).

Adult Penalties (Parents/Guardians): A fine up to $500 or up to 30 days jail (each offense is separate).

 

Warning: Officers may give a warning for the first offense.

 

Protection: Parents and businesses are protected from penalties if they promptly contact law enforcement when a youth refuses to leave or cannot be safely taken home.
